John McEnroe commented this morning at the U.S. Open about the players not seeming to worry about their joints, ligaments and tendons.

With age and experience sometimes comes wisdom. I have much the same thoughts.

Few sports are as hard on the body as tennis. Explosive movement, nearly as sudden braking and changes of direction. It's a wonder that any former pro players have escaped wheelchairs.

Most have surgical tracks that look like a railroad switchyard. And that's just how it looks from the outside.
