Has Golf Technology Gotten Ridiculous?

Oversized irons inset with different metals and composites, woods that look like balloons on a stick. Isn't it embarassing to be seen playing golf with all that? Wouldn't an old time golfer look at this equipment and roll on the floor laughing?

There's something to be said for blades, for having a one and two iron, for irons and woods with small elegant heads. Perhaps even for persimmon heads.
